How much data/internet mb does a normal android smartphone use?
Q. I am thinking on getting the 200 mb web/data plan with an android smarphone. How much data/web will an android smartphone use if you don't browse the web, just the homescreen has a weather app and another screen has the facebook app and the other screen has an email app. How much web/data will it use in a month?

A. For the most party i'd agree that it should be enough but you would have to be careful. With android phones, programs like to run in the background even if you don't know they are and they will use data as well. Also it's hard not to want to use the internet, youtube and all the other nice data using applications when you see how convenient they are. I didn't think I would use as much but I use between 1 and 2gb per month of data since I've had android. I watch youtube and do most of my basic web browsing on my phone along with the widgets and other apps. Hope that helps.

What is the best Android smartphone with Verizon?
Q. I'm looking to upgrade to a Android smartphone with Verizon Wireless. That has a good battery life.

A. Funny you should say that because there is actually a video on YouTube by phone dog stating the top 5 Verizon phones! Here's the link: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qE6-A500jbs. The first two phones he mentions though are not Android but the other 3 are! Hope this helps. Can't really give much more information because I don't live in the USA!

why the Incorrect login credentials on my android smartphone?
Q. I have 2 yahoo accounts setup on my android smartphone. As of yesterday, both are giving an 'incorrect login credential' error. I have not made any changes to my yahoo accounts. I've tried to delete them and setup again but I get the same error.

Any thoughts?

A. Hi Karen,

In order to prevent an "Invalid Credentials" error from occurring on your Android device, disable two-factor authentication:

1. Sign in to your Yahoo! Account page:

http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile

2. Click "Set up your second sign-in verification."

3. Make sure the checkbox for "Your second sign-in verification is turned on" is unchecked.

Note: If you only see an unchecked box that reads "Check this box to turn on the second sign-in verification," it is already unchecked.

Before continuing, remove your Yahoo! Mail details from your device entirely, then re-add your Yahoo! Mail account and attempt to access your account again.

How much data/web will an android smartphone use if you don't browse the web, just the homescreen has a weather app and another screen has the facebook app and the other screen has an email app. How much web/data will it use in a month?

A. It's really going to depend on how frequently you use these apps.

The weather app won't use much data at all, but the email and facebook apps could easily use a few megabytes each time you access them.

If you're only going to access these a few times a day, 200MB is probably OK.

If you plan on checking and posting a lot, then you may want to see about getting a higher limit - at least for a month so you can find out what your real usage is going to be like.

What is the usual file size of Android games?
Q. I'm planning to buy an Android phone. It has a small internal memory, so I'm trying to find out how many games I can install. I need to know the usual size of an Android game (the game not the installer). Also, how large are HD games like the ones from Gameloft?

A. 3D "HD" games are often 50MB installers, but take up up to 70MB once fully installed. Not many games take this much, Angry Birds Space is 28MB, Facebook is 12MB, but out of 125 apps on my phone, 100 of them are under 10MB. You can also find substitutes for some apps, like FBM is a Facebook replacement that uses the mobile web version, and it is a 600KB download.

What can I use to MAKE Android games?
Q. I would like to know how to MAKE Android games. Every time I ask, I get answers to game downloads and app makers that can't make games. I just want to know what I can use to make my own games. Thank you.

A. first off, the ? poster is totally wrong. Android uses java, not C++.

Second, look into the videos at ThNewBoston. They have 200 android video tutorials from setting up the program to write app and finishes with publishing the app. Not every video deals with games, but it'd be best to watch them all to learn.

How can you make money from android apps?

Q. I am taking a class on programming android apps. I want to find a way to make money from my app. It is a app that helps people find the latest events at their universities. How can I monetize it?

A. Thats a good idea for a app, Jason. Try your best to make it happen!

To answer your question about making money from apps, there are a couple of ways you can do this. One, you can always charge people to use your app, but I don't recommend this. Based on my experience from making apps, I noticed that free apps always have a ton of more users than paid apps. Your userbase will reduce by at least 50% if you charge people to download the app.

So my recommendation would be to provide a free app, and monetize it somehow like using ads, premium content, and other things. Since you said your app is about the latest events at universities, you can always charge people to put their events at the top!

Good luck!

What programming languages can be used to devolp android apps?
Q. i want to make android apps, but i want to know what programming languages are compatible with android, like is html compatible? or can it run regular java or mobile?

A. The language primarily used for Android is Java. HTML is not a language. Android is a distribution of Linux and C/C++ is usually used for Linux and it is poosible to do Android development using C++. It is also possible to use C# for Android. There are other languages that could possibly be used.

You can develop applications using HTML and JavaScript.

I suggest starting using Java and the Android SDK. I don't kno what book is good for learning. I am reading Pro Android (ISBN-13: 978-1-4302-1596-7) but you might need a separte book for Java. I am not sure if I recommend Pro Android; it might be too advnaced for you.

What Android smartphone would you recommend?

Q. I'm getting a smartphone soon, and I was thinking perhaps the HTC One X+ just because I like the design and it looks pretty good for performance. Do you recommend any other android smartphone?
How is the S3? And also, do any of you have any idea if the One X+ comes in white like the One X does?

Thanks for any help.

A. I would go with the One X+, it has better camera, performance and the LCD 2 display is much crisper and brighter than the Galaxy S3's, when you tilt it to the side it almost looks like the icons are floating on top of the screen. Some people complain that they need an Sd-Card slot on their phone but if you don't have a class 10 high speed card your phone is going to seem laggy especially since you are saving most of the app data onto the card. These cards are relativity expensive, a high quality class 10 32 gb micro-sd is going to set you back another 70-80 bucks at the least if you want the galaxy s3 to match the memory on the HTC One X+. With the HTC One X+ you wont have to worry about that because it comes with a beefy 64gb high speed memory chip inside the device itself. The build quality on the HTC One X+ is also much better than that of the S3's, the battery cover on the S3 is really flimsy. The HTC one X+ also gets jelly bean out of the box as the person before me mentioned and is more likely to get updates faster than the S3 since the S4 is due out early next year. The USA verison of the Galaxy S3 only has a dual core while the HTC one X+ has a renewed version of the Tegra 3 quad core, so not only will it have almost twice the performance of the GS3 but you also get longer lasting battery due to the Tegra 3 being extremely energy efficient especially when idle.

Q. What is the best android smartphone i can get at the market?I mean it's fast, full hd recording and more, some of my friends said buy SGS II.

A. Your friend is correct. I own the Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 (White) and god damn, it's the fastest phone I've ever purchased. Whether it's from texting, swiping screens, playing games, calling, editing my home screen, watching videos, and whatever else I do, it just never seems to lag. The 1.2 GHz Xyenos processor is too damn fast; in addition, the 1GB of RAM just makes everything faster. It's 1.2GHz stock...you can root it and I believe bring it up to 1.8GHz. I've yet to try that but right now, I don't need to since it's fast already.

What is the Android smartphone on the market?
Q. Does anyone have the Samsung Galaxy S III ? What is your opinion on it? Pros and cons? Are there any other Android smartphones worth looking into purchasing?

A. the gs3 is an awsome phone ... great battery life , great camera , i have mine on jellybean .. i text and watch videos at the same time ... it comes with the navigation integrated .. its awsome phone ... 16 gigabites built in and you can add up to a 64 gig sd card

now the other guy keeps pushing the nexus 4
which i also own ... and its a cool phone ..its just flat out not better.... it feels clumsy ... its better onnpaper but not in the hand .... also id only recommend it to people who are tech savvy or want a new phone without a contract

real problem with nexus 4 is it doesnt have 4g and you cant expand its memory ... the 299 version only has 8 gigs and you can only use 4 gig of it
so ud need the 399 version like me

to top it all off the nexus 4 is having production issues and can take up to a month to get

plus having both the gs3 has the better battery time with actual usage ..... the nexus li polymer battery took a shit on me once it all of a sudden died when it was fully charged

What are standard x-y dimensions for developing Android games?
Q. I want to make a game applet for the web that I will later try to turn into a game for Android phones. I remember reading once that there are specific width and height values (in pixels) you should use when making Android games but I can't remember what they were. Do you know?

A. The problem with handheld devices is that they come in different screen resolutions. What you need to avoid is to set absolute coordinates for objects and vertexes so that they will be rendered at different positions in different devices (and also may have different pixel densities).

But all this stuff can be easily done through the framework that OpenGL ES provides. If you are planning to do Android graphics you need to check on this.

Can we use the qwerty keyboard for android games in mobile phones?

A. Probably not if you play with the touchscreen. However it might, but it would be set out differently.

why the Incorrect login credentials on my android smartphone?

What do you think is the current best android smartphone?
Q. My Xperia X10's contract is nearly finished so I want a new android smartphone.
Which do you think is the best?
I'm thinking Samsung Galaxy S...?
What do you guys think?

A. Samsung galaxy S is still amazing despite being a year old. I think it retails around £220 now but still beats HTC desire S which is £100 more and all the phone within its price group.
However if you got the extra cash then go for the Samsung galaxy S II. They have improved upon the sgs in every single category. Its not like apple where they just made minor changes and then made it out like its evolutionary.

I want to make android apps, where do i start?

Q. I'm a 2nd year college student and I just finished learning Java pretty well. I heard that android apps use java, so what else do I need to learn and/or download? I have no experience creating apps. Does anyone have any recommendations for video tutorials or books?

A. There are at least a couple of different Android for Dummies books (you can find specific titles on amazon.com). Apress puts out a book called Android Apps for Absolute Beginners which you might also find useful.

What is the most used programming language to build Android apps?
Q. I am going to college very soon to learn web design but aside I want to teach my self to build Android apps. I read that they use JavaScript to build those apps. My question is: Is JavaScript the most used language to build Android apps? What are other commonly used languages to build Android apps? Thanks

A. Java is used to build Android apps, not Javascript! Using Java and the Android SDK is the way most apps are written. Java is a core language for Android and gives you access at a hardware level, which is preferred by allot of programmers. If you wanted something a little more simple which is easier to use then you can use the Corona SDK, a powerful and easy to use programming tool which takes allot of work out of programming in Java, you can also build any app for iOS as well. Corona SDK uses LUA as the main programming language and is in general a much easier language to use. You can use Java and the Android SDK or LUA and the Corona SDK.

Good luck!

How to detect which android apps prompt notification ?

Q. My android apps always prompt me notification on useless ads on adult video, how can i detect which application is causing this so that i can remove the apps from my hp, i have a lot of apps in my hp, is there a way to do it ?

A. android apps do not show pop ups of porn or adult videos.... unless you downloaded unknown app from Google Playstore OR a 3rd party app from an unknown source infected with malware or spyware.... in which case you need to get lookout mobile security and run a app scan and remove the walware or spyware....

or factory reset the entire phone

How do you know which classes to use in the API reference when developing android apps?
Q. I am just starting to developed android apps. I have installed the android SDK. I'm just confused on how to understand the reference documentation when it come to choosing the different classes when building an app. Can some explain to me how to use the documentation? Thanks

A. I took a class last semester on developing android apps. They have good tutorials on their website to get you started. http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/index.html I find it difficult and frustrating to actually go through the APIs and try to piece it all together. I think you're better off going through as many tutorials as possible and see how others use specific classes. From experience, android has a lot of random lines of code that are needed to get things to work and it is in no way self explanatory unless you are an expert. The link I provided should get you on the right path though. Programming android is actually fairly easy though.

How can I download Android apps from my computer to phone?
Q. When I go to the Android apps site and try to download an app it tells me I don't have any smart phones linked to my E-mail address.... How can I get apps for my phone with out having to use internet on my phone?

A. to download apps from android market you need a google account & have it linked to your phone.
one other way is to download from another app site to you pc & then side load onto your phone.
some places like 4shared, approb or androidfreeware.net will allow you to download to your pc just as you would any other file. android apps will have ".apk" at the end of the app name, like "madden11.apk"
just drag & drop the downloaded file to the root folder of your phone. if you dont know how to side load or install from your sd card using a file manager i suggest you look here http://restlesstech.com/sideloading-android-apps-for-dummies/ for help

Good luck!
