How much data/internet mb does a normal android smartphone use?

I am thinking on getting the 200 mb web/data plan with an android smarphone. How much data/web will an android smartphone use if you don't browse the web, just the homescreen has a weather app and another screen has the facebook app and the other screen has an email app. How much web/data will it use in a month?

Answer
For the most party i'd agree that it should be enough but you would have to be careful. With android phones, programs like to run in the background even if you don't know they are and they will use data as well. Also it's hard not to want to use the internet, youtube and all the other nice data using applications when you see how convenient they are. I didn't think I would use as much but I use between 1 and 2gb per month of data since I've had android. I watch youtube and do most of my basic web browsing on my phone along with the widgets and other apps. Hope that helps.

What is the best Android smartphone with Verizon?

I'm looking to upgrade to a Android smartphone with Verizon Wireless. That has a good battery life.

Answer
Funny you should say that because there is actually a video on YouTube by phone dog stating the top 5 Verizon phones! Here's the link: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qE6-A500jbs. The first two phones he mentions though are not Android but the other 3 are! Hope this helps. Can't really give much more information because I don't live in the USA!

why the Incorrect login credentials on my android smartphone?

Karen

I have 2 yahoo accounts setup on my android smartphone. As of yesterday, both are giving an 'incorrect login credential' error. I have not made any changes to my yahoo accounts. I've tried to delete them and setup again but I get the same error.

Any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Karen,

In order to prevent an "Invalid Credentials" error from occurring on your Android device, disable two-factor authentication:

1. Sign in to your Yahoo! Account page:

http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile

2. Click "Set up your second sign-in verification."

3. Make sure the checkbox for "Your second sign-in verification is turned on" is unchecked.

Note: If you only see an unchecked box that reads "Check this box to turn on the second sign-in verification," it is already unchecked.

Before continuing, remove your Yahoo! Mail details from your device entirely, then re-add your Yahoo! Mail account and attempt to access your account again.

Answer
It's really going to depend on how frequently you use these apps.

The weather app won't use much data at all, but the email and facebook apps could easily use a few megabytes each time you access them.

If you're only going to access these a few times a day, 200MB is probably OK.

If you plan on checking and posting a lot, then you may want to see about getting a higher limit - at least for a month so you can find out what your real usage is going to be like.

What is the most used programming language to build Android apps?

Q. I am going to college very soon to learn web design but aside I want to teach my self to build Android apps. I read that they use JavaScript to build those apps. My question is: Is JavaScript the most used language to build Android apps? What are other commonly used languages to build Android apps? Thanks

Answer
Java is used to build Android apps, not Javascript! Using Java and the Android SDK is the way most apps are written. Java is a core language for Android and gives you access at a hardware level, which is preferred by allot of programmers. If you wanted something a little more simple which is easier to use then you can use the Corona SDK, a powerful and easy to use programming tool which takes allot of work out of programming in Java, you can also build any app for iOS as well. Corona SDK uses LUA as the main programming language and is in general a much easier language to use. You can use Java and the Android SDK or LUA and the Corona SDK.

How can you make money from android apps?

Jason

I am taking a class on programming android apps. I want to find a way to make money from my app. It is a app that helps people find the latest events at their universities. How can I monetize it?

Answer
Thats a good idea for a app, Jason. Try your best to make it happen!

To answer your question about making money from apps, there are a couple of ways you can do this. One, you can always charge people to use your app, but I don't recommend this. Based on my experience from making apps, I noticed that free apps always have a ton of more users than paid apps. Your userbase will reduce by at least 50% if you charge people to download the app.

So my recommendation would be to provide a free app, and monetize it somehow like using ads, premium content, and other things. Since you said your app is about the latest events at universities, you can always charge people to put their events at the top!

Good luck!

What programming languages can be used to devolp android apps?

Jack

i want to make android apps, but i want to know what programming languages are compatible with android, like is html compatible? or can it run regular java or mobile?

Answer
The language primarily used for Android is Java. HTML is not a language. Android is a distribution of Linux and C/C++ is usually used for Linux and it is poosible to do Android development using C++. It is also possible to use C# for Android. There are other languages that could possibly be used.

You can develop applications using HTML and JavaScript.

I suggest starting using Java and the Android SDK. I don't kno what book is good for learning. I am reading Pro Android (ISBN-13: 978-1-4302-1596-7) but you might need a separte book for Java. I am not sure if I recommend Pro Android; it might be too advnaced for you.

I want to make a game applet for the web that I will later try to turn into a game for Android phones. I remember reading once that there are specific width and height values (in pixels) you should use when making Android games but I can't remember what they were. Do you know?

Answer
The problem with handheld devices is that they come in different screen resolutions. What you need to avoid is to set absolute coordinates for objects and vertexes so that they will be rendered at different positions in different devices (and also may have different pixel densities).

But all this stuff can be easily done through the framework that OpenGL ES provides. If you are planning to do Android graphics you need to check on this.

When I go to the Android apps site and try to download an app it tells me I don't have any smart phones linked to my E-mail address.... How can I get apps for my phone with out having to use internet on my phone?

Answer
to download apps from android market you need a google account & have it linked to your phone.
one other way is to download from another app site to you pc & then side load onto your phone.
some places like 4shared, approb or androidfreeware.net will allow you to download to your pc just as you would any other file. android apps will have ".apk" at the end of the app name, like "madden11.apk"
just drag & drop the downloaded file to the root folder of your phone. if you dont know how to side load or install from your sd card using a file manager i suggest you look here http://restlesstech.com/sideloading-android-apps-for-dummies/ for help

My Xperia X10's contract is nearly finished so I want a new android smartphone.
Which do you think is the best?
I'm thinking Samsung Galaxy S...?
What do you guys think?

Answer
Samsung galaxy S is still amazing despite being a year old. I think it retails around £220 now but still beats HTC desire S which is £100 more and all the phone within its price group.
However if you got the extra cash then go for the Samsung galaxy S II. They have improved upon the sgs in every single category. Its not like apple where they just made minor changes and then made it out like its evolutionary.

How much data/internet mb does a normal android smartphone use?

Gloop Glob

I am thinking on getting the 200 mb a month data plan. I was wondering how much data/internet an android smartphone would use if...
-Homescreen is a weather app
-One page is for Email
-One page is for Facebook

I don't really go on YouTube or do anything else. I also have WiFi.

How much mb will it use a month? Is it good enough for me?

Answer
200MB's would suffice if you NEVER use YouTube. YouTube alone can use up about 15-20MB's per clip. Limit yourself and check your data usage daily. My sister, who uses her phone purely for web browsing and emails averages at about 250MB's a month. There's no such thing as a "normal Android smartphone." It all depends on the user and what he does on it.

I didn't think I would use as much but I use between 1 and 2gb per month of data since I've had android. I watch youtube and do most of my basic web browsing on my phone along with the widgets and other apps. Hope that helps.

What is the best Android smartphone with Verizon?

Bj11310

How much data/internet mb does a normal android smartphone use?

Gloop Glob

I am thinking on getting the 200 mb web/data plan with an android smarphone. How much data/web will an android smartphone use if you don't browse the web, just the homescreen has a weather app and another screen has the facebook app and the other screen has an email app. How much web/data will it use in a month?
